I was dealt this wonderful hand in Las Vegas in round 2 of the 2010 tournament. Although the temptation was great, because I have never had any grand ouverts in tournament play, I played the percentages and did not risk a guaranteed 192 point winner (+50 more for a won game) to score 72 more against the prospect of losing -528 points (-50 more for a lost game). That's a painful 820 point swing! Plus my three opponents at the table get an easy 30 points each.
So I played it as GH-Schneider Announced. Turns out (of course) the three spades were indeed split and I would have made it. So I took the extra 24 points for making a schwarz as my consolation, along with the satisfaction that I played correctly and did not anger the "Skat gods" with idiotic play. I do that often enough already.
